“In this interview, the General Commissioner of the ART ORAN Festival, Tewfik Ali Chaouche, discusses the origins and ambitions of this inaugural edition, which has been running from 11 July until 31 August and is transforming the city into a vast open-air gallery. Initiated and founded by the artist Sadek Rahim (represented by Galerie Hamid Khellafi), and organised by the Civ-Œil association with the support of several partners (the Wilaya of Oran, the Department of Culture and the Arts, the Oran APC and art galleries), this unique event brings together around twenty exhibition venues. It fosters a dialogue between contemporary art and the city’s heritage, architecture and collective memory through original urban itineraries, and demonstrates a strong commitment to intergenerational exchange and accessibility for as many people as possible.”
