Whilst the gallery is closed for the summer, a work of art – a sculpture that looks more lifelike than life itself – takes centre stage at the Summer Group Show.
The man pulling the boat at arm’s length, the only survivor of this journey that is both unique in terms of its individual scale and also namelessly banal in its totality, carries on his shoulders a rucksack containing cartons of cigarettes, the symbol of his future survival on the other side. On his face, a few butterflies, the colour of gold. Illusion masked by a blinding dream. The work is intended to be installed clandestinely at the foot of the Barbès metro station.
